Lawyer,
Law Professor and Commercial Arbitrator Mario
E Valderrama is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK)
affiliated with its East Asia Branch, defined to mean the geographical
area of China, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Korea, Singapore and
Indonesia.
He was co-opted as Representative for the Philippines in the Branch's
Regional
Sub-Committee for the year 2000. He
is also a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators. He
is an accredited arbitrator for domestic and international disputes in
the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI) where he is a
member
of its Board of Trustees, its Deputy Secretary General and
concurrently,
the co-chair of its Education Committee. He
chaired a domestic arbitral tribunal in PDRCI (PDRCI Case No.
19-20021-SSP)
and once served as sole arbitrator in an international commercial
dispute
by appointment of the International Chamber of Commerce International
Court
of Arbitration (ICC Case No. 11526/TE, Singapore). He
has been and continues to be a faculty member at the Far Eastern
University
Institute of Law where he held the JAKA Professorial Seat from 1995 to
1996 and where he handled a wide range of subjects in Civil, Political
and Commercial Law as well as subjects in legal practice including
Arbitration
and ADR Seminar. He
is a former President of the Far Eastern University Law Alumni
Association
(2000-2001); former President of the Far Eastern University Institute
of
Law Faculty Club (1996-1997); former Chapter President of the IBP
Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas
Chapter (1993-1995) and a former chair of the IBP National Committee on
Public Services (19971999). As
a lawyer, he has extensive practice in litigation, negotiation and
contract
preparation and administration. For a while, he was an associate
attorney
in the firm Tanjuatco Oreta Tanjuatco Berenguer and Sanvicente
(1987-1989)
and was General Counsel in the Philippines for Kumho Construction &
Engineering, Inc. (1986-1989), after previously being its Philippine
Branch's
House Counsel and Administrative Manager (19831985). He
obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Far Eastern University
Institute
of Law in 1982, when he graduated valedictorian and magna cum
laude.
He was admitted to the Bar in 1983 after placing 12th in the
1982 Bar
Examinations with a weighted average of 88.2%. His
professional activities include making presentations about ADR and
commercial
arbitration in local and international events. |
